I’m not going to lie, I love a good interview. There’s something about a microphone, on stage or on my phone, that is irresistible. I have even enjoyed finding the best hairbrush that can substitute for a real microphone as I’m practicing my stand up routines or speaking gigs around the house – it’s the round ones with the stiff bristles. However, the TV remote will also do in a pinch!
So! I was jazzed to see an email from Candace Gish awhile ago asking if she could interview me for her radio show, Divas That Care.
How I Met the Divas That Care CEO
I met Candace a few years ago at a women’s conference. At that point, I was separated from my then-husband. In fact, I met her a week after my ex and I decided to proceed with divorce.
I was broken down, grieving, re-traumatized, not knowing what my future would hold. Everything I had planned and built over 20 years was falling apart, pieces heaped at my feet.
I was booked to speak at a women’s conference, and I was not going to cancel. Keeping true to myself – which is to write and speak what I know – my segment was called, “What To Do When Life Falls Apart Around You.”
All told, everything went well. I received so much encouragement from the other women there. I felt celebrated and supported, held up by those who had traveled this road before me.
This is what I remember when I think of Candace. Her support, her vitality, her determination to make a positive difference in the world. Sitting around tables and laughing and crying and sharing. We all need people like her.
