As 2021 comes to a close, I’ve been reflecting on how much I appreciate this community. How much I appreciate you.
Every day, I am grateful for how much trust you put in me. I do not take this for granted. It is such a vulnerable act, to allow me to share in your successes and challenges, deepest feelings and thoughts.
A year ago, this career I stumbled upon was not even on my radar. I’m honored to do this work.
My Gift to You
I know it isn’t much, but I have a small gift that may help navigate what can be a stressful couple of weeks from now through New Year’s Day.
Spoiler alert – the gift is two questions. I love questions. Curiosity goes so much further than judging ourselves. Here they are:
How do you feel? and What do you need?
As you find yourself breathing shallowly and possibly overwhelmed by the expended energy and chaos that Christmas provides, pause and ask yourself those two questions.
How do you feel? Start from the inside out. How do you feel in your body? What are the physical sensations? What meaning do you give these sensations?
What do you need? Do you need to drink water? Eat some protein? Sit or lie down? Talk with a friend? Be alone? Go outside? Punch Santa? Laugh more? Make a boundary? Take a nap?
Asking yourself these two questions will cut down inner chaos, I promise. Plus, asking these questions is an act of self-care, which can be difficult to come by during this time of year. Basically, we’re crushing it.
Wishes for the Holidays
As we close out this year and open a new one, I have many wishes and hopes for you and me.
I hope we experience small moments of joy and recognize them when they happen.
I hope that we feel loved.
I hope that we feel the refreshing potential of a clean slate, a new beginning as move from the longest night of the year into 2022.
I wish for a much larger, clean bathtub for long, luxurious baths that we take separately. You know what I mean. Great, now I’ve made it weird.
I wish for many memories made with family and friends. I like to say that you either have a great time or you make great memories. If you’re really lucky, you get both.
I hope we all aggressively rest, as the last couple of years have demanded much from us.
Have a Wonderful Christmas Season Full of Met Needs!
