What is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)?
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a psychological trauma to the brain and nervous system after experiencing a life-altering event or series of events. Having PTSD is like getting caught in a loop, where the nervous system is stuck in the ON position. The nervous system and brain operate as if the past trauma is happening now. PTSD symptoms keep happening until we work with our brains and bodies to stop the destructive loop.
According the National Center for PTSD, about 8% (8 out of 100) of women and 4% (4 out of 100) men will have PTSD at some point in their lives. In 2020, about 13 million Americans had PTSD.
