Did you know that we can build a group or class around YOU?
It’s true. In fact, that’s how I prefer to structure classes and groups. There are a few reasons for this. The first is that it makes it really easy for me to decide on a day of the week and time of day, which can be different based on where in the world participants live. The pandemic and Zoom have made it really easy to connect with people all over the globe.
Second, if you want to take a specific class, there are probably a few other people (at least) who would be interested. And third – I’m not lying – it’s nice to be wanted (LOLOL). Seriously, though, it’s nice to have someone “in the trenches,” even if that means simply letting me know what you need. I love that! That is literally what I’m here for.
If You Want a Class or Group
My curiosity is limitless. If you want a class around writing, comedy, grief, trauma, parenting, self-care – WHATEVER – I am in. These are my specialties, plus I was a classroom teacher for ten years, teaching is my jam.
Of course, I include the caveat that if the subject matter is completely over my head – like how to do underwater welding – I won’t be able to teach that. But I can help you find resources, so don’t be afraid to ask.
How do you ask? No problem! Send me a message or email (kelly @ mapyourhealing (dot) com) or contact me through this form.
The Healing Through Humor Comedy Class Coming Up
What is the Healing Through Humor class? This is using various forms of short writing and comedy exercises to find the humor in our trauma, grief, and mental health challenges.
To be clear, we are *not* making fun of trauma, grief, and mental health challenges. We are making light of *our experiences,* which can be quite absurd. Here’s a video I did last year for Cascadia Behavioral Health with more about that (a warning – I was watching A LOT of Schitt’s Creek at the time):
The class typically has been teaching people how to write and perform stand up comedy, and this class will definitely be about that. Also, since we do writing exercises, I’m wondering if anyone will want to create a piece to read at our performance at the end of class. We’ll see!
Class Details and Sign Up
Can we make life’s challenges funny? What about terrible events and chronic illness?
Basically, yes. And Kelly Wilson will teach you how.
Join a small group – limited to 8 participants – to support each other in a space that is safe, fun, and vulnerable.
Group is facilitated by Kelly Wilson, Certified Trauma Recovery Coach, Grief Recovery Specialist, and mental health-focused stand up comedian. Kelly will teach students in the class how to process mental health issues, trauma events, and grief experiences through writing and creating stand up comedy.
This small group is meant to be a confidential place to share. The meetings will begin Tuesday, April 12th, will be once a week, will last an hour and a half-ish to two hours-ish on Zoom (and in person if possible), and will go for 8 weeks.
The cost is Pay What You Can (suggested donation $10 – $25 per week).
Interested? Sign up here for updates. More details to come!
