So much of life is simply showing up.
There have been many moments over this last year where I’ve thought, “I don’t know what I’m doing.”
No, wait. There have been many moments over the course of my LIFE where I’ve thought, “I don’t know what I’m doing here.” Off the top of my head, career changes, having babies, teaching a wily group of 5th graders, getting married, moving, quitting jobs, being asked to speak or do comedy or make presentations.
There’s typically a moment where the inner critic – as my therapist calls it, “The Shitty Committee” – appears and says, “I don’t think you can do this.”
The Shitty Committee is wrong.
We are Resourceful
One of the things that I like to remind myself is that trauma survivors are resourceful. We’ve survived this long, haven’t we? And how have we done that?
We are resourceful.
What happens when I “don’t know what I’m doing”?
This means that the adventure is just beginning. Because I don’t need to know everything right now, this minute. I don’t have to know every step of the way. Life doesn’t work like that. Life is Call and Respond.
I only need to see the direction and take a step.
This Video is Me Showing Up
So much of life is simply showing up.
I’ve been getting into video lately. A trend I have resisted for a long time. I don’t know why, probably body and self image stuff and not wanting to “look dumb” or “unprofessional.”
Not wanting to not do well. Wanting it to “be perfect.” And video, for me, is not perfect. It’s tough. There’s a learning curve, and I’ve yet to reach the center of it.
Ah, perfectionism. Part of “The Shitty Committee.”
